Let’s read… a Shopaholic story

Reading challenge

I decided to take on this challenge without following the list. However, I will try to read at least 52 books this year. I plan to include children’s books, too, but to count them only once (If you have a kid, you know what I mean. Some stories need to be told 89 times at least, preferably every night for months in a row), and only the ones never read before.

So maybe I shall do this the following way: posts in English for books read in English. Then maybe a translation. And posts in Hungarian for books read in Hungarian. And then maybe a translation ;)

#1 Sophie Kinsella: Shopaholic on Honeymoon (2014)

It comes as a free ebook, a Christmas gift from Sophie Kinsella to all Shopaholic fans. A very short story. 31 pages in all. Just a tiny episode of the honeymoon. It lacks the excitement, the struggle and the climax I love in all other books of the Shopaholic series. Exactly the same problem with the last, unfinished story, Shopaholic to the Stars. You got the struggle but there was no climax. It just left the reader guessing. And sad. I always feel sad towards the end when Becky’s world comes crumbling down, and everyone is mean to or disappointed in her. This time, there was no solution to that. I started to wonder, what if I die before I have a chance to read the next one? That is how depressing it was. But this is about the short story. It is so short, you almost don’t realize it started and you already reached the last word. It is nice but really unsatisfactory. Imagine your favourite dessert offered to you at an unexpected moment. Then you get only one spoonful. Or one bite. It is yummy but you crave for more so badly that you wish you didn’t get that one bite at all. However, a true Shopaholic fan would never miss it, so here you go, enjoy while it lasts!
